The Minecraft movie looks like a soulless neon abomination

Take a moment and look at the photo at the top of this post.

The expression on the faces of this colorful gang of colorful characters is the Exactly Expression that everyone makes when they see the trailer. Disgust, confusion, disbelief. Even those of us who are not tall Minecraft Players can see that this movie is destined to be a flop.

Sometimes all you need is a trailer to show how bad a movie is going to be. That was all we needed to give our assessments of the Borderland Film or the new crow reboot. Now we have this blindingly terrible trailer for a Minecraft A film that no one in the fan community asked for, made by people who apparently never asked themselves, “Who is this film for?”, because this film doesn’t look like a film at all. Minecraft Fans would love to see it.

Now, as some have pointed out, this might be of interest to younger children and teenagers. Perhaps older people like your humble narrator are simply not the target audience. But I am not that far removed from my inner child and I think – as someone who loves things made for children – I have a relatively good sense of what is in a Minecraft Film. This one, I’m afraid, is not it:

I like Jason Momoa and Jack Black, but it’s not enough for a movie to have actors I like. I don’t even mind Momoa’s bizarre appearance – his weird wig and pink jacket are perhaps the only thing this trailer has going for it.

But if you go for live action, a group of kids and teenagers makes a lot more sense than this. I know that adults play too Minecraftbut it is still a franchise aimed primarily at children. “Jumanji” had a group of adult main characters, but it worked because it was really a group of teenagers playing adults in the video game, and they still acted very age-appropriate.

What I don’t understand is why someone would make such an unnecessary mistake. An animated Minecraft A movie that actually looked more like the game (though maybe prettier) and had clunky main characters just makes so much more sense than this soulless, paltry abomination. I’m appalled.

The only people who are excited about this trailer are the makers of the Borderland film, who now, to their great relief, have a new contender for the worst video game movie of the year. It’s funny, we finally had the curse of the video game adaptation with many different great films and TV shows from the Super Mario Bros Film about The Last of Us, Arcana And Stand out. But it seems the curse was only mostly broken.

I’m afraid we’ll need more than Miracle Max to fix the problem.
