The Lyons Fire District will vote Tuesday on the purchase of a $1.7 million aerial ladder truck
The Lyons community is divided over the purchase of a $1.7 million aerial ladder truck to replace an old truck in the current fleet. The vote is scheduled to take place Tuesday from noon to 9 p.m. after the Lyons Fire District Board approved the purchase by bond.
In fact, there are two sides to this debate: On one side, supporters say there is a significant need for modernized equipment to meet state standards and fire department requirements. On the other side, opponents say the cost and lack of public outreach are problematic.
Some residents have asked the county to help finance the purchase, but the Board of Supervisors declined. A public vote, open to all fire district residents on Tuesday, will determine the outcome.
