The iPhone 16 will not be a must-have, according to a new report from an industry insider

As the iPhone 16 series draws closer, the excitement surrounding it is waning. It is becoming clear that the new phones will only represent insignificant improvements over the current generation and Apple intelligence will not be enough for buyers to overlook that. This was confirmed by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has listed all the major changes expected this year in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter. The phones will have pretty much the same design as the current phones and won’t get any major new features either.

The base models get the Action button that was introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro. Since iOS 18 introduced a more customizable Control Center and a resizable lock screen, the button now seems almost redundant.

In contrast, the new Capture button, which previous reports said would be standard across the lineup, sounds more exciting. Gurman says the button will work like a DSLR camera button, allowing you to perform operations like activating autofocus, zooming in and out, and of course, taking a photo.

The iPhone 16 Pro’s screen size increases from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s display size increases from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches.

Apple will also again equip all models with the same chip and they will all have 8GB of RAM. This will ensure that Apple Intelligence features run smoothly on the new phones.

These changes could be enough to iPhone16 to secure a spot on the best phones of 2024 list and convince owners of older iPhones to upgrade, they probably won’t be enough to kick off a supercycle. Apple is expecting this, which is probably why it didn’t provide a forecast for revenue growth in the current quarter.
