The latest iPhone may be on shelves sooner than you think.
Apple is hosting a special event on Monday, September 9, where the tech giant is expected to unveil its latest handset – the iPhone 16, as well as its Pro and Pro Max models.
Many outlets have now announced a specific launch date for the new iPhone, but Apple officials have not confirmed it. But if the new handset is announced during Monday’s event, Indiana can expect to see customers lining up outside Apple stores later this month.
When is the iPhone 16 rumored to be released?
Although Apple has not yet officially announced when the iPhone 16 will be released, both Forbes and consumer technology magazine CNET believe the earliest on-sale date will be Friday, September 20.
How did they come up with that date? By marking the date after the event planned for Monday, which is themed “It’s Glowtime.” New iPhones usually go on sale shortly after these events, experts say. Sales of new iPhones usually begin on the Friday of the following week.
“And if the rumors are true, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro will each receive a number of important updates, from new power-efficient displays and larger screens to better zoom lenses and the inclusion of an Action button on all 2024 iPhone models,” wrote CNET’s Sareena Dayaram.
What will the iPhone 16 look like?
Not much is known about the appearance of the iPhone 16. According to Bloomberg, the iPhone 16 Pro models will have larger screens and new camera features, such as a dedicated button for taking photos.
Bloomberg reports that the colors of the Pro models could also be refreshed. Fans can look forward to a return of rose gold.
In May, an industry analyst quoted on MacRumors.com predicted that Pro models would likely come in black, white, silver and gray, with rose gold available instead of titanium blue. The base iPhone 16 model could come in black, green, pink, blue and white.
How much could an iPhone 16 cost?
Apple has not yet made any official statements about the possible price of the iPhone 16. However, several technology media outlets believe that the price could increase.
Higher production costs, better cameras and new artificial intelligence could make the iPhone 16 more expensive, writes CNET’s Abrar Al-Heeti. While it’s too early to tell, Apple could either use the iPhone 16 release to raise the overall base price by another $100, as it did with the last model upgrade, or – given U.S. consumer concerns about the economy – keep prices similar to the iPhone 15, which costs between $799 and $1,199.
What upgrades can iPhone users expect?
Apple is introducing several artificial intelligence tools called Apple Intelligence, which the company unveiled during the Worldwide Developers Conference in June this year.
The new AI will include writing tools that can analyze a user’s emails and essentially rewrite them to sound friendlier, more professional, or more succinct. According to a promotional video, Apple Intelligence will also include a feature called Genmojis, which will let you type in a short image description and create your own emojis.
According to Apple, Siri is also getting an upgrade. The AI assistant will better understand questions and requests, allowing people to speak more naturally.

- Transcription services in Notes and Phone app.
