    Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich’s eyes were red from crying Thursday night, but it wasn’t the team’s winner-take-all 4-2 loss to the New York Mets in Game 3 of the Wild Card Series. which visibly touched him emotionally.

    A one-on-one conversation with legendary Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker in the home clubhouse after the game clearly left a profound impression on Yelich, who has been with the team since 2018 and considers Uecker one of his best friends.

    Yelich declined to elaborate on the specifics of their conversation or what exactly made him so emotional about it, but the impact the Hall of Fame announcer had on him was obvious.

    “It’s special every time he’s around,” Yelich said, his eyes red. “You shouldn’t take it for granted. He is the man. He means a lot to this place. Anyone who has spent time here knows how special Bob is.”

    Yelich was then asked how the loss contributed to his feelings.

    “For me it was the conversation with Ueck,” he said. “It’s one of those things – a difficult question. Everything else is what it is. It’s a tough end to the season, but talking to ‘Uecky’ one-on-one was tough.”

    “This is sport, but by far the hardest part of the evening for me was talking to Bob and all that stuff. He’s still kind of laughing about it all and the whole thing.”

    Uecker decided the game again on Thursday after he was in the locker room but not on the headset in Game 2. He was on the headset in the decisive ninth inning as the Brewers blew a 2-0 lead with two outs left in the first inning, winning a playoff series in their final five postseason games.

    In his farewell speech, Uecker expressed the pain of what had just happened on the field.

    “I’m telling you. That,” Uecker said, pausing to summarize the feeling of the moment, “had a certain bite to it.”
