The Gathering’s Commander bans have reduced Dockside Extortionist’s value

Key findings

  • Magic: The Gathering’s recent Commander bans on Dockside Extortionist, Jeweled Lotus, and Mana Crypt have caused their value to drop in just a few hours.
  • Dockside Extortionist has fallen 79 percent in value, from £70 to £15, while Jeweled Lotus has suffered an even steeper decline, falling from around £90 to £20.
  • Fans did not react very well and sold their Docksides for pennies and burned them as the value of the collections had dropped dramatically.

Magic: The Gathering’s Commander format was completely turned on its head today when the Commander Rules Committee voted to ban the first wave of cards since 2021, when Golos, Tireless Pilgrim was banned. In total, four cards were banned, namely Jeweled Lotus, Mana Crypt, Nadu, Winged Wisdom, and, most controversial of all, Dockside Extortionist.

These cards were very powerful and therefore very valuable. Unfortunately, due to the fact that they are now banned in the Commander format, their value has dropped significantly, as all of these cards are now being sold on the used market for a much lower price than they were a few days ago.

Dockside Extortionist is one of the more striking examples, with cards trading for around £70 just yesterday according to Card Market. Take a look at the latest listings and you’ll see a lot of Dockside Extortionists selling for around £15, a whopping 79 percent reduction in value. There’s even a guy selling a card for around 57p with the caption “Dockside took all our money!”

Magic: The Gathering: The Commander bans have lost value

Dockside Extortionist Prices

It’s a pretty similar story to the other cards included in this recent wave of bans. Owners of Jewelled Lotus have also been hit pretty hard, as the card was worth around £90 before the bans were announced. Take a look at the card on Card Market and you’ll see that it’s now selling for a disastrously low £20. That’s a loss of value of around 82 percent.

Mana Crypt and Nadu, Winged Wisdom were also hit pretty hard, although the latter only traded for a few pounds so not much money was lost here. The value of the remaining cards has plummeted entirely, making many Magic: The Gathering collections worth significantly less. Fans have not taken this well.

Many people were confronted with the sudden realization that Her once valuable collection lost value practically overnightwhile you also have more passionate fans like VerbalDevil They burn their docksides and give one to the dog. We hope these cards never get released again, just for VerbalDevil’s sake.
