A Chicago-area mansion formerly owned by R. Kelly and restored by one of the Isley Brothers is for sale.
The home is gigantic, measuring more than 21,000 square feet on a 3.7-acre lot, and was listed for $3.5 million in early January by Alex Wolking of Keller Williams ONEChicago.
The last owner, Rudolph Isley, who sang hits such as “Shout,” “It’s Your Thing” and “This Old Heart of Mine,” died in October 2023, leaving behind his wife Elaine. Wolking declined to comment on why she is selling the house.
“It’s a big house for a big personality,” Wolking said in an interview with USA TODAY.

House under R. Kelly’s ownership foreclosed, renovated by Isleys
The house at 1 Maros Lane in Olympia Fields was built by once-famous R&B singer and later sex offender R. Kelly, Crain’s Chicago Business reported. He bought the property in 1997 after “I Believe I Can Fly” became a hit, but in 2011 the property was foreclosed on, Crain’s reported.
He was already under investigation at the time for multiple allegations of sexual abuse of minors. According to CNN, the house was also home to Kelly’s studio, called the “Chocolate Factory,” from 2004 to 2010, and witnesses who testified against Kelly in the sex trafficking case said those who lived, worked or visited there were under Kelly’s tight control.
Wolking said the house had been unoccupied for a few years and had fallen into a state of disrepair before the Isleys bought it in 2013. The new owners added a kitchen that was previously completely missing and renovated the basement, which had been damaged by flooding. They also updated the sports courts (basketball, pickleball, tennis) and updated the landscaping, he said.
High ceilings and acoustics suitable for musicians
The home features a gated entrance, six-car garage, elevator, theater, and jungle-themed indoor pool room.
Wolking said neighbors in the village have called to congratulate him on the listing and wish him well. In addition, the adjacent Olympia Fields Country Club has hosted several PGA Tour stops.
Wolking knows that it takes a very “specific buyer” who wants that much space and privacy and still wants to live about 45 minutes outside of downtown Chicago.
He would not be surprised if another musician took over, as the acoustics in the large hall are great thanks to the high ceilings.
“The way the house is filled with music is absolutely breathtaking,” said Wolking.
