The first warning days continue as we observe heavy rains and possibly strong winds

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – There will be more rain showers tonight, tomorrow and into Friday morning. Our WVLT First Alert Weather Days continue as the chance of flooding and high winds increases. A FLOOD WARNING lasts through Friday morning.

TONIGHT: Showers, heavy at times, especially in the higher elevations of the mountains of eastern Tennessee. Lows between 15 and 18 degrees. Northeast winds at 5-10 mph.

FIRST WEATHER WARNING DAY THURSDAY: As the remnants of Helene approach from the south, widespread rain will continue. Wind speeds will increase to about 15 mph (24 km/h).

THURSDAY NIGHT: More heavy rain with passing tropical rainbands. Another 2 to 4 inches of rain is possible, with more in the higher elevations of the Smokies. Wind gusts up to 40 mph are expected in the valleys and 60 mph in the higher elevations.

FIRST WEATHER WARNING DAY FRIDAY: The morning rain will soon subside, with maximum temperatures remaining at 21 degrees. It will remain windy with gusts of 65 to 80 km/h early in the day.

WEEKEND: Saturday is a MAJOR time for weddings and outdoor events as the UT football team will have its first week off. Comfortable temperatures are expected with persistent clouds and a few showers on both Saturday and Sunday. Highs will be around 70 degrees.
