The family of teenage cheerleader Emily Gold speaks out after her tragic death

Emily Gold, a 17-year-old cheerleader from California, committed suicide on Friday – just one month after she embarrassed the audience during a show on America’s Got Talent.

Her parents confirmed the news of their daughter’s death – and the immense grief it has caused in their lives – in an Instagram post on Sunday.

“It is with immense sadness that we share with you all that we lost our beautiful Emily on September 13th,” Gold’s parents Steven and Brandy wrote under a photo of their smiling daughter in her cheerleading uniform.

“Our hearts have a hole the size of the universe right now,” they continued. “The love and support we are receiving shows us how many lives this angel has touched and uplifted and this will help us through the most difficult time of our lives. Thank you all for your love and support.”

The post was also signed by Gold’s brother Alex, who left a personal message in the comments section. “I love you sister, I will do anything for you, I will always look for you in heaven,” he wrote.

Gold’s high school dance group had impressed America’s Got Talent Judge Simon Cowell a month earlier when their group reached the quarterfinals on the NBC talent show America’s Got Talent.

“It was absolutely brilliant,” Cowell said when the group auditioned. “What I loved about it was the energy. I think what I’ve just seen is everything a great school should do, which is encourage talent and friendship.”

The California Highway Patrol received reports on Friday that the teenager was driving in the middle of traffic in Rancho Cucamonga, about an hour outside of Los Angeles. When police arrived, Emily had disappeared after allegedly jumping from the overpass, The sun.

Her death was ruled a suicide by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.
