The Miami Dolphins suffered another quarterback injury when Skylar Thompson had to be carried off the field in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

There was no official announcement of Thompson’s injury, but doctors and athletic trainers appeared to be examining his ribs after he was knocked to the ground following a pass midway through the quarter.

While it was a shove from Dre’Mont Jones on a seemingly innocuous play that sent Thompson to the sideline, the injury could have occurred on Miami’s previous possession when he was sacked by Tyrell Dodson.

Thompson was slow to get back to his feet after the hit from Dodson and ran off the field with a slight bend in the middle. He returned for the next series but remained down for several minutes after completing a pass to De’Von Achane. Thompson remained on his back for several minutes before sitting up and heading straight to the locker room.

He was replaced as quarterback by Tim Boyle.

Thompson’s injury came just over a week after Tua Tagovailoa suffered his third concussion in the last two years in a loss to Buffalo. Tagovailoa was placed on the injured list earlier this week.

It was the third serious injury the Dolphins suffered in the game after left tackle Terron Armstead (eye) and cornerback Kendall Fuller (concussion) were injured in the first half.

Fuller suffered a concussion in the first quarter and was ruled out after an examination early in the second half. Armstead’s injury was announced late in the second quarter and Kendall Lamm stepped in for him.

Seattle lost significant depth in its defensive line in the first half due to injuries to Byron Murphy II and Leonard Williams.

Williams was injured on the opening series and went to the locker room with one hand on his stomach. He appeared to be back in the second quarter but was ultimately held up.

Murphy was injured midway through the second quarter on an 8-yard run play by the Dolphins. Murphy slowly walked to the locker room before being ejected.
