The September Community Update for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 included all the usual goodies like bug patches and announcements of upcoming content, but one part surprised me a little: one of the developers asked that the community be a little nicer right from the start should you meet Henry Cavill.

“It has been reported that some players exhibited hurtful behavior or comments in the game,” the community update said. “We will not tolerate this and will take measures to prevent it.”

“First and foremost, we ask that you treat your fellow Space Marines with respect, maturity and courtesy. You never know how old the other players are, how their day is going, how sensitive they may be… overall you. “I never know who your brothers and sisters are. It might even be that you don’t want to offend Henry Cavill, bro, no you don’t.

It was only a matter of time before we found out that Henry Cavill was playing Space Marine 2, but players were still excited when Cavill confirmed his love for the latest Warhammer 40K game on his Instagram last week: “I love the PvP and I really am.” I’m excited for it to grow and expand. It has real potential to be absolutely great!”

Players should just be nice to each other for the obvious reason: no one wants to get banned (it’s also a decent thing to do). But waving Henry Cavill to fans feels like your parents threatening to tell your favorite Power Ranger that you didn’t eat vegetables when you were six.

But honestly, it worked for me when I was six years old, and apparently it still works today. I’d be pretty horrified if I insulted a player only for them to reveal that it was actually Henry Cavill – that would be a real jump scare. So maybe we should all just act like every player we meet is Henry Cavill and just be nice to everyone, no matter how many stupid decisions they make.
