The Cowboys’ win over the Giants provides some much-needed “joy” after two losses.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The Dallas Cowboys saw their best defensive player need help getting off the field in the final minutes of the game. They touched the opposing quarterback three times and had to survive two last-gasp drives from the New York Giants, which ultimately led to a 20:15 victory. They were outrebounded, held the ball for 10 minutes less than New York and were flagged 11 times for 89 yards.

But the mood in the locker room was one of relief rather than fear.

“It’s more fun here,” wide receiver CeeDee Lamb said after the game. “When you lose twice in a row, you kind of get into a phase where everyone is a little tense.”

As professionals, the Cowboys would of course be willing to play again even in a short week, Lamb said.

“It’s good that we came out 1-0 this week. This was exactly what we needed,” Lamb said. “It was a division game – that put us in the right place.”

The win moved Dallas back to .500 (2-2) and denied sports television analysts the opportunity to examine anything related to the Pittsburgh Steelers over the next 10 days until their Week 5 “Sunday Night Football” game on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers Cowboys is wrong.

“We see all that,” said linebacker DeMarvion Overshown (eight tackles). “We (are) human beings, but most importantly we are grown men and competitors… so we wanted to come out here all week and show what we are capable of. Now all we have to do is stack them.”

Last week, Lamb was seen screaming on the sidelines as the Cowboys fell behind early against the Baltimore Ravens. Against the Giants, he roared for a much happier reason.

Lamb caught seven passes for 98 yards – 55 of which came on his touchdown from Dak Prescott late in the first quarter. New York lined up second-year cornerback Deonte Banks to face Lamb.

All Prescott had to do was let Lamb beat Banks off the line of scrimmage and play the ball before the deep safety rotated to that side of the field. Lamb, who said after the game it was the only one-on-one look he saw all game, caught the ball at the Giants’ 40-yard line and took it from there.

“‘Let’s score.’ That’s my attitude. Whenever I’m one-on-one, let’s score,” Lamb said.

Lamb’s celebration drew three different flags for taunting, resulting in a 15-yard penalty based on the extra point. In the wideout’s eyes, everything happened quickly in those moments as he threw the football as it crossed the goal line and moved toward the crowd.

“All this passion and everything came from me,” he said.

Lamb told his coaches that won’t happen again in 2024; he has one free ticket per year.

“This was built a long time ago,” Lamb said of the celebration.

A win can release that tension – and bring “joy” to a team that strives for it.
