The Community Day event raises food bank funds

“My to-go order, securely packaged, was a generous portion.” “The bowl I created tasted great and was full of flavor” – Kristi K. Higgins

CHESTERFIELD – Have you tried CAVA’s new restaurant in Chesterfield? The fast-casual restaurant chain serves Mediterranean-inspired bowls, pitas, dips and dressings. It is adjacent to the ABC store in Virginia and is the sixth CAVA in the Richmond area.

I stopped by the restaurant for the first time on Saturday, September 28th, around 4:30 p.m. The line was long, but it moved quickly. As I looked around, the space, menu, and concept reminded me of Chipotle Mexican Grill, which also happens to be located in the IronWill Center.

Guests can build their own salad bowls and pitas with limited quantities of vegetables, dips, spreads, main ingredients such as steak, chicken, falafel, lamb and vegetables, toppings and dressings. Everything behind the glass looked fresh and well stocked. The glass in front of each station lists the items needed to build bowls and pitas. I love cheese, but the only choice available was a CAVA signature, feta with jalapeño, onion and olive oil. I’m not a feta fan.

Orders placed online are placed on pickup shelves. They don’t deliver. Don’t expect fancy decor. The space is inviting, but I think it could use some artwork to admire while waiting in line or eating. And if it were up to me, padded seats would replace hard seats.

Chesterfield CAVA: What’s on the menu?

I selected numerous items for my Greens + Grains Bowl, including arugula, romaine lettuce, black lentils, tzatziki sauce, grilled chicken, harissa honey chicken, fiery broccoli, pickles, tomatoes, fire-roasted corn, onions, cucumbers, and yogurt- Dill dressing. My total before taxes was $12.65. My to-go order, securely packaged, was a generous portion. The bowl I created tasted great and was full of flavor. Next time I will avoid black lentils or at least ask for a small portion. This foodie gives CAVA a 10 out of 10 for service and food preparation, and I give myself an eight out of 10 for my first CAVA creation curated by Kristi.

Other menu items include a variety of chef-curated bowls and pitas, salad bowls, desserts, drinks and sides such as pita chips, hummus, roasted eggplant and harissa, a Greek twist on a traditional North African spicy chili paste with a vibrant tomato flavor.

Kids’ meals, which start at $6.80, include a mini version of CAVA’s homemade pita, a side of pita chips or carrot sticks, and milk or juice.

Chesterfield Food Bank Outreach Center: CAVA hosts Community Day

“Our mission is to bring heart, health and humanity to food, and everything we do at CAVA is based on this spirit of generosity towards our guests, our team members and our community,” said Marc Backer, Regional Director. “We couldn’t be more excited to be in Chesterfield.”

Before Chesterfield CAVA officially opened its doors on September 13, new neighbors were invited to CAVA Community Day to enjoy a free meal. To support a local cause, donations of up to $1,000 were accepted and matched by CAVA. Since 2019, CAVA’s company-wide Community Day program has raised more than $500,000.

The Chesterfield Food Bank Outreach Center, founded in 2010, benefited from the Community Day event. The nonprofit empowers individuals and families to overcome the root causes of food insecurity through programs, services and community resources. “We welcome CAVA to the Chesterfield County community and are grateful for their commitment to helping our neighbors in need,” said Kim Piper Hill, executive director of the Chesterfield Food Bank Outreach Center. “We are also grateful for the partnership with business.” At this time, CAVA’s donation has not yet been submitted to the food bank at 12211 Iron Bridge Road in Chester. Visit cfboc.org to make a donation or learn about volunteer opportunities.

CAVA has also partnered with Food Rescue US to donate fresh meals prepared during the restaurant’s training period to members of the local community. The company’s food donation program launched nationwide in fall 2023 to address food insecurity and reduce food waste as CAVA expands to new locations.

As stated in the press release, CAVA’s new restaurant in Chesterfield will employ 30 to 40 people. The company hires people for their hospitality and warmth and strives to create career opportunities for its team members.

CAVA is located at 9959 Iron Bridge Road in Chesterfield near the intersection of Iron Bridge, Lori and Beach Roads. Daily operating hours are 10:45 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. For more information, including CAVA’s rewards program, visit cava.com.
