The Cariboo Memorial Hospital Emergency Department will be closed overnight on August 25

Interior Health announced a nightly closure of the emergency department at Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake

The Cariboo Memorial Hospital (CMH) Emergency Department will be closed overnight on Sunday, August 25.

Interior Health abruptly announced it would close its emergency department overnight, effective immediately, but the announcement posted on its website did not specify a time.

The emergency room will be closed until 7:00 a.m. on Monday, August 26.

Patients may be treated at the 100 Mile District General Hospital in 100 Mile House, the GR Baker Memorial Hospital in Quesnel or the Bella Coola General Hospital in Bella Coola during this time.

All other inpatient services will continue at Cariboo Memorial Hospital.

Persons in the community requiring life-threatening emergency care (e.g., chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding) should always call 9-1-1 for transportation to the nearest available and appropriate facility.

Anyone unsure whether an emergency department visit is necessary can call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 or visit www.HealthLinkBC.ca to receive non-urgent health information from nurses, dietitians and pharmacists 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The emergency department at Cariboo Memorial Hospital is normally open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
