Bride Lupe Jacquez’s wedding dress and veil went up in flames after her wedding ceremony in a now viral video

A bride was taken aback when her dress and veil caught fire on her big day.

In a viral video, bride Lupe Jacquez’s wedding dress and veil catch fire during her wedding to Luis Quijano. The flames are believed to be caused by floating candles that lined the aisle and streamers that were thrown into the air after the newlyweds’ wedding.

On July 11, Jacquez said Good morning Americaabout the incident and explained that she was unaware of the danger until she stopped kissing her husband.

“I looked up and saw two of my friends running towards me. I turned around to see what was going on and that’s when I noticed that my veil and dress had caught fire,” she said.

Jacquez’s brother-in-law Albert Rodriguez, who performed the wedding ceremony, also said: GMA about the frightening ordeal. “It was a beautiful moment, but I noticed there was a little too much chaos,” Rodriguez recalled.

“I heard a scream. It didn’t sound like a shout of joy. It sounded more like panic.”

Viral videos show the dress trailing behind the bride and groom as it touches the candles on the floor and streamers fly through the air. Within seconds, the dress is on fire.

Artist Shauna Bailey, who painted the wedding live and documented the celebration, also posted about her experience on TikTok. “I’m SO relieved that no one was hurt. It’s entertaining now, but at the time it was TERRIBLE,” she recalls.

Her vantage point was behind the ceremony room, where guests threw streamers as the flames began to grow.

“I was shooting footage for the time-lapse of the painting when this happened. I actually dropped my phone and ran to get a bucket of water.” Bailey also said that the bride was “smiling the whole time” despite her dress being damaged, calling the moment “WILD.”

Luckily, wedding guests (including firefighters) reacted quickly when they saw the dress catch fire and rushed to put out the fire and make sure everyone was safe. Jacquez said she felt “truly loved” because her family and friends were looking out for her. No one was injured in the incident.
