For Hayden, the tuxedo was Tom Ford from the start. “I just think it’s the epitome of the tuxedo,” he says. To the rehearsal dinner, he wore a shirt he’d taken out of his grandfather’s closet after he died many years ago. “It was white with blue pinstripes, I just saw it and fell in love with it for some reason,” Hayden admits. “But it had cufflinks, so I never had the right opportunity to wear it. I found the opportunity. His initials were still embroidered on the breast pocket when I greeted all of our guests. I wore it with my Ralph Lauren linen suit and my cream Chucks. I’d always wanted a burgundy velvet suit, but I didn’t have the audacity to get one. Finally, I had the reason: my wedding after-party. That was Tom Ford, too.”

Grace and Hayden have both always been obsessed with Nirvana MTV Unpluggedand took inspiration from it for their ceremony. To that end, stargazer lilies – which were part of the set where Kurt Cobain performed – lined the aisle and the area where the couple stood during the ceremony. “We wanted to keep it very minimalistic and not take away from the beauty of the lake and the villa,” says Grace. “Since we are musicians, the microphone was also important for the ceremony, so Hayden brought his old RCA radio microphone in his purse.”

As Hayden walked his mother down the aisle, a string quartet played “Ruby Tuesday” by the Rolling Stones – the ceremony was on a Tuesday, after all. “Luckily, the sky turned completely blue an hour before the guests arrived after a week of rain and hail was forecast,” says Grace. “All the guests were given umbrellas and folding fans. The ceremony was officiated by our very good friend Currie. We kissed and walked hand in hand down the aisle as newlyweds while the strings played a rendition of ‘Heroes’ by our favorite singer, David Bowie. It was a dream wrapped in a fairy tale.”

“When Grace appeared at the end of the aisle in her dress, it felt like the universe stopped,” Hayden recalls. “She was breathtaking. When I stood in front of Grace – my best friend and greatest love – and our close friend performed the ceremony in front of our friends and family that we love so much, it all felt so easy. We wrote our own vows but didn’t share them until that moment. Grace blew me away. I will never forget that feeling. Everything was perfect.”

“I felt like everything finally made sense,” Grace adds. “I wrote my vows that morning and thought I would be nervous. I was. But when I saw Hayden at the end of the aisle, I felt at home.”

After the ceremony, the newlyweds sailed away on a vintage Chris-Craft while guests chatted and enjoyed appetizers. Finally, everyone sat down to a lively Italian dinner while a jazz band played. The couple danced their first dance to “I Only Have Eyes for You” by The Flamingos and cut the cake to “Life’s a Gas” by T Rex. Then they changed into their after-party attire to toast with champagne. “It was a 15-liter Nebuchadnezzar Veuve Clicquot poured into a pyramid of coupes, to be exact,” Hayden notes. “And in true after-party fashion… the glasses tipped over.” They popped the giant bottle anyway as the original version of Bowie’s “Heroes” played and giant sparklers were lit everywhere—it was officially time to dance.
