Dragon Ball Evolution I did a lot of things wrong, but the live action Dragon Ball The film’s biggest mistake was ignoring one of the anime’s greatest characters. Before projects like A piece And The Last of Us has shown that you can make great live-action adaptations of popular franchises that respect the source material while still creating something new, Hollywood has had terrible success with the genre. Dragon Ball Evolution is still considered the worst live-action anime adaptation of all time 15 years later, which is unfortunate considering how much Dragon Ball for millions of fans around the world.

I understand that a film from 2009 with a smaller budget would have difficulty capturing the fantastic, action-packed world of Dragon BallHowever, after watching Netflix’s A piece Season 1, I can’t help but wonder what a real live-action Dragon Ball film would have looked with a reasonable budget and a solid creative vision. As terrible as the film is, it can be fun to watch again Dragon Ball Evolution and look at the strange creative choices made in the film. It was strange to turn Goku into a high school studentbut leaving Krillin out entirely was somehow even weirder.

The flaws of the Dragon Ball live-action film were obvious even before its release, as not even one simple thing was right when compared to the anime.

Dragonball Evolution completely ignored Krillin

Krillin was neither introduced nor teased in Dragonball Evolution

Dragon Ball Evolution technically covered Dragon Ballranging from the death of Grandpa Gohan to Goku’s fight against King Piccolo. Although Krillin was not very prominent in this part of the story – he dies at the beginning of the King Piccolo arc – the character became synonymous with the original Dragon Ball As Dragon Ball grew up in Dragon Ball Z and continued to introduce several powerful characters. Krillin became a nostalgic reminder of the time when Goku and his best friends were still children. Therefore any Dragon Ball The story is incomplete without Krillin.

Dragon Ball Evolution did not try to stay true to the original, which meant that it would not be a problem to introduce Krillin earlier and have him be part of the team that searched for the Dragon Balls and fought against King Piccolo. The fact that the first and so far only Live action Dragon Ball One of the anime’s most popular characters was missing from the film perfectly sums up everything that is wrong with Dragon Ball Evolution. It also says something about how the film perceived the characters – most of them served merely as plot devices.

For example, most of Master Roshi’s lines in Dragon Ball Evolution were pure explanations about the Dragon Balls, Oozaru and Piccolo. Likewise the friendship between Goku and Bulma is almost non-existentwith the latter serving as a plot device to get the heroes from point A to point B in their quest for the Dragon Balls. Even Yamcha joining the heroes before the third act is practically just a comic insert. None of them really bond with Goku like they did in the anime, making it difficult to imagine what Krillin would have been like in the film.

Would Krillin have saved Dragon Ball Evolution?

A real Krillin could have helped Dragon Ball evolution

On the one hand, Krillin in Dragon Ball Evolution could have helped the film. A well-cast Krillin with enough charisma to portray the fan-favorite character could have given the film some much-needed heart and even enhanced Goku’s live-action character. Some of Goku’s best scenes in Dragon Ball Krillin is involved and their friendship is one of the pillars of the late Akira Toriyama’s story. Krillin could have been a good comic relief too, but only if he was written correctly. nothing in evolution suggests that Krillin would have done it right.

There are probably no redeemable qualities about the live action Dragon Ball movie. None of the characters could keep up with their anime counterparts, starting with Goku. From odd casting decisions to poor characterization and script, Dragon Ball Evolution did not come close to doing justice to its characters. The decision to adapt Dragon Ball instead of Dragon Ball Z made sense for the first film, but not even the relatively small scale of the first 196 chapters of the series could help Dragon Ball EvolutionThe film largely ignores the manga’s story and introduces new, original concepts about Piccolo and Goku.

Maybe it’s a good thing that Krillin didn’t appear in Dragonball Evolution

Dragonball Evolution didn’t get any of its characters right

Krillin’s absence from Dragon Ball Evolution was questioned when the film was announced and the first promotional materials were released. In hindsight, however, I’m relieved that Krillin wasn’t in the film. Dragon Ball Live action. Considering that Goku, Bulma, Piccolo, Master Roshi, and all the story elements from the manga that it takes up failed in the film, it’s safe to assume that Krillin would not have been treated well. Krillin has been through a lot in Dragon Ballbut it is always written with great respect and care, even during his many deaths.

Master Roshi and his dynamic with Goku did not work in evolutionMoreover, it is hard to believe that evolution would have gotten the humor and silliness that comes with Krillin. Although it is difficult to translate the humor of an anime for an adaptation, Dragon Ball Evolution did a particularly poor job in this regard. The film attempted to be a classic 2000s high school coming-of-age movie, but failed to be as funny as the best entries in the genre. Dragon Ball Evolution‘s version of Krillin could have ended horriblyeven though the cast was somehow spot on.

Krillin is the heart of Dragon Ball

There are currently no plans for further live action Dragon Ball Film. A few years after the evolution catastrophe that Dragon Ball Franchise returned with a movie that led to a brand new series, Dragon BallSuper. Since then Dragon Ball has entered a new successful era of movies and anime series. Therefore, a live-action project does not seem to be a priority. However, considering how popular the IP is, I would not be surprised if another Dragon Ball Live-action movie happens at some point. If so, it needs Krillin.

After Dragon Ball EvolutionI would be interested to see if a new Dragon Ball Hollywood film would try to cover Goku’s first adventures as a child, or would he go straight into Dragon Ball Z. Either way, Krillin would be very important. Krillin is more than just a buddy of Goku, he is probably the heart of Dragon Ball and helps keep the series grounded despite all the aliens and gods the heroes encounter. Krillin is often the strongest person at any given time Dragon Balland I would love to see his fighting style in live action.
