The best places to pick apples in the Hudson Valley

Where to pick apples in Westchester County

1. Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard – North Salem

This family-run farm traditionally allows visitors to pick apples daily starting in September, although no official dates for 2024 have been announced as of mid-August. The farm also offers homemade donuts, apple cider, fruits and vegetables, and fresh eggs, as well as lunch and live music. Note: Dogs are no longer allowed on the premises.

2. Stuart’s Fruit Farm – Granite Springs

With nearly 20 different varieties of apples and pumpkin patches, this family-run farm offers plenty of fall fun. Apple picking begins in early September and hayrides are offered on weekends. The original barn now serves as a fruit and vegetable stand. You can also enjoy fresh pies, donuts and more, all made on the farm. Note: The farm accepts cash or checks only.

3. Wilkens Fruit and Fir Farm – Yorktown Heights

Head to the farm to pick up your bags and rent picking poles starting August 31, 2024. The farm offers more than a dozen apple varieties at different times (check the calendar for the apple varieties’ ripening schedule), as well as other fun weekend activities, like a corn maze. Later in the season, you can also pick pumpkins, and starting in late November, the farm lets you cut your own Christmas trees. The bakery and markets feature fresh-baked pies, cookies, apple cider donuts, strudel poles and more, as well as snacks and seasonal crafts and gifts. If you’re planning a weekday visit, note that the farm is closed on Tuesdays.

Where to pick apples in Rockland County

4. Dr. Davies Farm – conger eels

Dr. Davies offers 5,000 trees on 65 acres, weekend hayrides, and homemade donuts, pies, and more. Bring cash as credit cards are not accepted. Don’t forget to make a reservation on the farm’s website before you go. Starting in mid-August, the farm is open for peach and apple picking.

5. The Orchards of Concklin – Pomona

This farm – which is only open on weekends – offers a variety of apples throughout the season, with the harvest starting on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Don’t forget to visit the farm shop and bakery, which have plenty of treats to choose from.

6. Apple Dave’s Orchards – Warwick

Apple Dave’s was formerly called Applewood Orchards and was renamed in 2015 after its founder, David Hull. In addition to delicious apples and pumpkins, the farm also features live music, strutting chickens and fresh apple fritters. Activities are free and you only pay for what you pick. Apple picking begins August 31, 2024.

7. Lawrence Farm Orchards – Newburgh

This Newburgh farm begins its apple harvest in mid- to late August and offers more than 15 different types of fruit. In addition to picking, children can have fun in the playhouses of the “Little Village.” There are also apple fritters, apple cider and many other treats.

8. Masker Fruit Farm – Warwick

Instead of riding the covered wagon to the orchards, you can drive your car to the tree of your choice once the harvest begins on Saturday, August 31, 2024. On weekends, you can try the apple maze, pony rides, a family-friendly haunted house, pumpkin patch and more. The farm offers 14 different varieties of apples, so be sure to check out the ripening schedule to find out when your favorites are ripe. 9. Ox Orchard – Warwick

This farm grows many different varieties of apples, from Gala in early September to Golden Delicious in early October. There is a market, a petting zoo, and apple cider is made on site. Apple season runs from late August through October, but call ahead or visit the farm’s Facebook page for regular orchard updates.

10. Pennings Orchard – Warwick

Pennings Orchard offers more than a dozen varieties of apples as well as a pumpkin patch. Opening day for apple picking is Saturday, August 24, 2024. Families can enjoy a variety of activities including a playground, a children’s maze, and visits with animals such as cows and more.

Where to pick apples in Dutchess County

11. Barton Orchards – Poughquag

This 122-acre farm offers extensive pick-your-own opportunities, including apples, pumpkins, squash and more. Barton, where picking is currently open starting in mid-August, also offers additional activities, including a petting zoo and playground. The farm is also hosting the Hudson Valley Apple Festival the weekend of September 21 and 22, 2024, with live music, food trucks and entertainment.

12. Fishkill Farms-Hopewell Junction

This 270-acre farm in Hopewell Junction has many different varieties of apples, all of which are either organic or eco-certified. You’ll also find donuts, a farm shop, and more. Reservations must be made in advance and can be made on the farm’s website. Apple picking is currently available starting in mid-August.

13. Greig Farm – Red Hook

The apple harvest at Greig Farm begins in late August, with pumpkins available later in September. There are opportunities to feed goats and koi fish on the farm, and there are several trails for a post-harvest stroll. Be sure to also visit the Farm Market & Café, where you can grab lunch before (or after) your visit.

14. Rose Hill Farm – Red Hook

This 100+ acre farm has several different varieties of apples available for picking. Events and pop-ups are held throughout the year, so keep an eye on the farm’s website or Facebook page. Suckling pig dinner and apple picking on Labor Day weekend at Twin Star Orchards – New Paltz

Celebrate Labor Day and the start of apple season at the orchard with a suckling pig dinner with live music and apple picking on Saturday, August 31, 2024. The orchard is family and pet friendly, so bring the whole family for a fun weekend. Twin Star Orchards specializes in “ugly apples,” grown for their taste rather than their appearance. Picking will begin Saturday, August 31, 2024.

Honeycrisp Fest at Weed Orchards & Winery – Marlboro

Celebrate fall and Honeycrisp apple season every weekend from Saturday, August 31 through Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Weed Orchards. Several varieties of apples are available for picking and there are family-friendly activities like face painting, hayrides and live music. The playground is open, tractor rides start at noon and the farm allows friendly, leashed dogs on the property.

Apple picking days at Kelder’s Farm – Kerhonksen

Celebrate the harvest season and fall foliage at Apple Picking Days at scenic Kelder’s Farm on select days Tuesday, September 3 through Friday, September 20, 2024. Pick your own apples and enjoy all the usual attractions including the giant jumping pillow, mini golf, tube slides and farm animals. The farm store, snack bar and taproom will be open serving local craft beers and special fall treats.

Hudson Valley Apple Festival – Poughquag

Barton Orchards hosts this annual festival of apple picking and a full day of fun for the whole family the weekend of September 21-22, 2024. Admission includes live music, food trucks, unlimited hayrides, a petting zoo, a wooden ship playground, and a full schedule of family-friendly entertainers.

Warwick Apple Fest – Warwick

Apple Fest will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024, in the center of Warwick Village and will feature more than 150 artisans, more than 75 food vendors, four stages of live music, and an apple pie baking and eating contest. There is also a children’s carnival and Warwick shops are within easy reach for more shopping.

Apple and Wine Festival at Weed Orchards & Winery – Marlboro

Celebrate harvest time at Weed Orchards at the Apple & Wine Festival, held every weekend from Saturday, September 21, 2024 to Sunday, October 13, 2024. Enjoy beautiful views of the Hudson Valley while harvesting your own produce. Family-friendly activities include face painting, hayrides and live music, and the farm serves special apple-themed food and treats.
