The benefits of buying your next TV at Costco

Honestly, is there anything you can’t buy at Costco? From hot dogs to quartz countertops to patio furniture, the members-only wholesale store is popular for good reason: You can buy groceries, clothing, electronics, furniture, jewelry, and more with a single membership. If you’re in the market for a new TV, shopping at Costco offers you several benefits, including generous warranties, return policies, and technical support.

Buying a TV can be overwhelming, as there are countless different models and specifications to consider. Costco may not be the first store that springs to mind when buying a TV; more commonly, you shop at big box stores like Walmart or tech stores like Best Buy. However, Costco carries some of the most popular TV brands, and its famously fair prices and excellent customer service extend to its TV lineup as well. Depending on what you want from your next TV, Costco could be the right choice.

Costco’s policies stand out

One of the main benefits of buying home products at Costco is the return, warranty and technical support policies that come with every order. Costco offers a long return window of 90 days, which is longer than most stores, and is usually flexible with returns. This makes shopping a lot less stressful, as you’re less likely to be stuck with a model you don’t like or that’s defective. Costco also offers a two-year warranty on every TV, regardless of the manufacturer, and you can extend the warranty up to five years if you wish.

Another benefit of shopping at Costco is customer service. You can use Costco’s TV buying guide to find the best model for you. Once you’ve decided, each TV ships for free when you purchase online, and if it’s larger than 55 inches, it’ll be delivered to the room of your choice for no additional charge. Costco also offers free technical support with its Costco Concierge program, so you can get help setting up your new TV and troubleshooting any issues at no additional cost.

Finally, Costco’s TVs are very inexpensive. The retailer’s prices are often lower than other stores for the same products – the Sony 77-inch Class Bravia XR is currently $500 cheaper at Costco than at Best Buy, while the Samsung 43-inch Class Crystal UHD is $20 cheaper at Costco than at Samsung. Some of the most popular brands are available at Costco, including Sony, LG, Hisense, Samsung, and Roku.

What you should consider before buying

Before you choose a TV from Costco, there are a few things to consider. First, Costco’s selection isn’t as extensive as some other stores like Amazon and Best Buy. Costco only carries eight TV brands in total. Also, Costco doesn’t offer same-day or two-day delivery (except for groceries), so if you’re in a rush, Amazon or Walmart are probably a better choice.

While you can be sure you won’t overpay for a TV at Costco, prices aren’t always lower. For example, Samsung’s 65-inch Crystal UHD is the same price at Costco and Amazon. If the TV you want is the same price at another store and you don’t already have a Costco membership, it makes more sense to shop elsewhere.

This brings us to the final consideration: You need an active membership to shop at Costco. If you’re not already a member, you won’t necessarily want to become one just to buy a TV. Costco recently raised its annual membership fee from $60 to $65 for the first time in seven years. You can avoid the membership requirement by shopping online at Costco.com, but you’ll pay higher prices than members. You could also have a friend or relative who is a member buy you a Costco gift card, which you can then use to purchase any TV of your choosing.
