Texas Tech opens new animal behavior clinic

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Texas Tech University’s Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources will open its Animal Behavior Clinic in September.

The clinic’s goal is to provide affordable pet behavior training that addresses issues such as fear, aggression and separation anxiety.

The clinic operates on a pay-what-you-can model and is part of a faculty-led fellowship program.

“We know that behavioral training for animals costs a pretty penny,” says Assistant Professor Anastasia Stellato, “especially when it comes to aggression or aggression caused by aggression or anything that requires a little more nuanced treatment than just getting your dog to sit.”

This initiative provides students, including undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, with practical experience under the supervision of faculty.

Pet owners can sign up online by answering a few questions to customize training to their pet’s needs.

The clinic is open to both locals and non-residents, although in-person sessions may be required.

“They don’t even have to be based in Lubbock,” she said. “Of course they have to be if we want to meet with them and actually help them with personal behavioral training. But there are no requirements for the people themselves.”
