Texas Tech Basketball reaches top 5 of its most important high school target for 2025

One of the top-ranked high school basketball players in the class of 2025 is close to making a decision. On Tuesday, it was announced that the Texas Tech basketball program is still in the running in this crucial recruiting battle.

Kingston Flemings, a 6-foot-3 point guard from San Antonio, Texas, is rated as a five-star recruit in the 247Sports consensus rankings and has reportedly narrowed his list of possible schools to five. Tech is on that list along with Arkansas, Texas, Houston and Gonzaga.

The Red Raiders have been pushing hard for Flemings, their top priority in the current recruiting cycle. Whether Grant McCasland and his program can get the deal done will tell us a lot about the Red Raiders’ ability to acquire top-tier high school talent. It could also tell us something about what Tech’s NIL program is capable of compared to other major programs.

Flemings is the nation’s fourth-best point guard and 21st-ranked player according to 247Sports’ consensus rankings, making him the highest-ranked player to ever join the Red Raiders out of high school, surpassing Jahmi’us Ramsey, a four-star recruit and the 42nd-ranked player in the class of 2019 who spent just one season at Tech before heading to the NBA Draft.

Flemings could also be a one-and-done player in college, but he is a talent worth adding to the team, even if it is just for a short stay.

According to Brandon Jenkins, a recruiting analyst for 247Sports, Flemings has “the highest potential of any nationally ranked lead guard prospect.”

Tech offered Flemings a scholarship back in April 2023. He then took an official visit to Lubbock in September of last year. He hasn’t taken any official visits since then, but he has plans to visit Texas, Houston and Gonzaga this fall.

Currently, the Red Raiders have no players committed to the class of 2025. Of course, signing Flemings would be a fantastic way to jumpstart this class. It could also potentially catapult McCasland’s program into a new stratosphere when it comes to being a power player on the recruiting front.
