After a lot of trolling in college football during the first week, the second week continued with swipes on the teams’ social media accounts.
The weekend’s top game at noon brought with it one of the first trolls, as the Texas Longhorns defeated the Michigan Wolverines 31-12 in Ann Arbor.
Texas struck first with a 21-yard pass from Quinn Ewers to Gunnar Helm and built a 24-3 halftime lead from there. It was the first of three touchdown throws by Ewers, who totaled 246 passing yards on the day. The Longhorns defense took care of things on the other side of the ball, forcing three turnovers and holding Michigan touchdown-free until the final minutes of the game.
After the emphatic win, Texas’ X-Account boasted about the triumph and made a few jokes about the Wolverines’ famous stadium — a post referencing its nickname, “Big House,” as well as a celebratory video unveiling the Longhorns’ logo above the M Block at the building’s entrance. The post’s caption was a variation on the popular Michigan saying, “It’s great to be a Michigan Wolverine.”

Iowa Hawkeyes 20, Iowa State Cyclones 19
The annual “Cy-Hawk” game between rivals Iowa and Iowa State, one of college football’s biggest early-season rivalries, would surely draw some ridicule from the winner.
Traditionally, the encounter has been a low-scoring affair. The 20-19 final was the fifth game in the last six editions of the competition to end with a total score of fewer than 40 points. Iowa State kicker Kyle Konrardy was the hero of the victory, converting a 54-yard attempt for the lead in the final seconds of the game.
The Cyclones kept it simple but effective after the win. They first captioned their postgame victory graphic “Cyclone State,” a twist on Iowa’s official nickname, “Hawkeye State,” and then referenced the silence that Iowa’s Kinnick Stadium had gone after Konrardy’s game-winning shot. Former Iowa State basketball star Tyrese Haliburton also joined in, calling out “X” to mark the victory on opposing territory.

California Golden Bears 21, Auburn Tigers 14
Newly minted ACC member Cal earned an important win for its new conference on Saturday by knocking off Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
The Golden Bears defense intercepted Tigers quarterback Payton Thorne four times, with the last two times coming on Auburn’s final two drives. The Tigers’ five total turnovers were the most by an Auburn team since 2017, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
After the game, Cal’s X-Account referenced the SEC’s famous slogan in the caption of its anniversary graphic.
