Texas announces that two players will miss game against ULM

AUSTIN, Texas – Less than an hour before kickoff against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, the No. 1 Texas Longhorns announced that redshirt junior quarterback Quinn Ewers and sophomore safety Derek Williams will miss Saturday’s game.

Early in the second quarter of last Saturday’s 56-7 win over UTSA, Ewers suffered an injury to his oblique muscle, which Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian later revealed was a strain that is affecting the Longhorns’ starting quarterback “week to week.” On Thursday, Sarkisian said redshirt freshman Arch Manning would start, although Ewers has made “great progress” in the days following his injury.

Williams, who recorded six tackles this season and made his first interception in the win over Michigan, is out with a hamstring injury.

In more positive news before the game, junior running back Jaydon Blue dressed and participated in warmups after missing the UTSA win due to an ankle injury he suffered in Ann Arbor. The same was true for sophomore running back Quintrevion Wisner, who was previously listed by Sarkisian as a game-time decision after suffering an injury against the Roadrunners. In Sarkisian’s postgame press conference, he said Wisner could have returned if needed.

Other players not on the injury list who missed last week’s game include redshirt senior defensive tackle Aaron Bryant (knee) and sophomore safety Jelani McDonald (ankle). Bryant was undressed during pregame warmups, as was freshman defensive tackle Melvin Hills, but McDonald was in uniform and participated.
