Test report on the work shoe “Ryng Low Comp Toe” from Brunt Workwear – robust and comfortable

REVIEW – I started a new job a few years ago. Trust me, it was better that way. However, this new job requires me to go on construction sites, which means I need PPE (personal protective equipment). One of the items I needed was steel or comp toe boots. So I did some research online and looked for a good deal. I found something I thought was sturdy and comfortable from a company known for their shoes. Turns out they were big, heavy, and a little too wide. By the end of the day, my big toes and ball of my foot were sore, but that was what I had, and I didn’t drive to construction sites very often. I decided to make do with what I had. Then Brunt Workwear came along with an offer to test out some of their work boots. Yes, please! Brunt sent me a pair of their Ryng Low work boots (I got to choose from their range). I hoped they could replace my work boots by being lighter and more comfortable. How did they perform? You have to read on. No TL;DR here.

What is that?

The Brunt Ryng Low work shoe is a hybrid performance work shoe with a lightweight, breathable construction and a composite toe cap.

Design and features

The Ryng Low work shoe is made from an abrasion-resistant, flexible and breathable nylon blend. So it’s tough, lightweight and cooler than regular work boots. The safety cap is a nanocomposite. I wanted to give a definition here, but when I googled it, I found a lot of scientific terms that were beyond my scope, so if you’re curious, I’d suggest looking it up. Maybe you’ll understand it better than I do. I know that the cap is tough, lightweight, doesn’t conduct heat or cold, and meets all safety standards. Brunt Workwear has also reinforced the toe and heel in high-wear areas and used double and triple stitching at stress points.

The rubber outsole is oil and slip resistant and heat resistant up to 572 F / 300 C. It also offers protection against accidental contact with live circuits. These shoes meet the following standards:

  • Meets ASTM F2413-18 MI/75 C/75 EH
  • Meets ASTM F2913-19 SATRA slip resistance test standards
  • Meets ASTM F1677-96 Mark II slip resistance test standard

The shoe contains two separate insoles that allow you to individually adjust your comfort.

Performance

I found the Brunt Ryng Low very comfortable on my last trip. That trip consisted of an overnight stay on site from 9pm to 8am the next day, so I had to walk a lot and stand for long periods of time. I liked the orange insole the most. It provided great cushioning for my feet. The shoes were also noticeably cooler than my other work boots. I also didn’t feel like I was walking around with 5lbs more on each foot. I’m not saying my feet didn’t hurt by the end, but I was on my feet and moving for most of those 11 hours. They certainly didn’t hurt as much as they could have if I had been wearing my boots. My big toe and ball of the foot were much better with the Ryng Low work shoes.

Final thoughts

I’m so glad I tried out the Ryng Low Comp work boots from Brunt Workwear. The price is comparable to other work boots of this caliber and in my case a better deal as far as comfort goes. Yes, you can get much cheaper work boots. I spent less when I was younger and believe me, these boots were not worth it. If you are looking for great work shoes or boots, I recommend you check out Brunt Workwear. I think they make an excellent product at a reasonable price.
