Tennessee ranks in the top five

ut

After dominating Oklahoma in a game that wasn’t as close as its final 10-point margin showed, Tennessee moved up one spot to No. 5 in the AP poll. The Volunteers didn’t allow their first two touchdowns of the 2024 season until the fourth quarter of Saturday night’s contest – when the team was already ahead 22-3. Tennessee’s defense plays at an elite level and fits in with the electric, yet balanced offense.

Meanwhile, the top four of the AP poll remained the same, led by No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Ohio State and No. 4 Alabama.

The reigning national champions are back in the top 15 after being ranked No. 1. 12 Michigan Wolverines moved up six spots in the AP poll. Michigan’s three-point victory, which only covered 32 yards, wasn’t pretty, but it was enough to impress voters.

On the other hand, Southern California falls two spots to No. 13, just one spot ahead of No. 14 LSU, which the Trojans defeated in the season opener.

BYU and Boise State jump into this week’s rankings

After Nebraska and Northern Illinois lost to unranked opponents, the two schools dropped from the AP poll. BYU and Boise State replaced them.

BYU enters the rankings after dominating then-No. 13 Kansas State team 38-9. The Cougars are undefeated at 0-4 to start the year. Meanwhile, Boise State enters this week’s rankings at 2-1. The Broncos have only beaten Georgia Southern and Portland State, but the narrow loss to a top-10 Oregon team was impressive.
