Tennessee High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams – September 16

The latest update of the Tennessee state high school rankings from On3’s Massey Ratings didn’t change too much after last week’s results. However, several highly rated matchups have been scheduled for this week across the state.

In total, eleven teams have not changed or have only changed by a single place. Among these, eight have seen a repositioning within the top 10, with both the number 1 and number 2, both of which are top 100 teams nationally, and numbers 3 and 4, which have been swapped for each other.

This means Tennessee has three games scheduled next Friday between teams in the top 25. Four more games will be between opponents in the top 40.

Here’s what On3’s Massey ratings in Tennessee look like since the update on the morning of September 16:

Previous placement: 2
With a 30-point road win in a top-15 matchup, Baylor School reclaimed the top spot in the rankings for Tennessee after a 37-7 victory over Lipscomb Academy. The Red Raiders brought their balanced attack to Nashville and totaled 404 yards of offense — 230 passing yards and 174 running yards, with four different weapons scoring two points in each of those disciplines. They also held the Mustangs from reaching 200 yards and forced a turnover. Now back on top, they return home this week for a game against Christian Brothers.

Previous placement: 1
Oakland dropped one spot to No. 2 despite their 41-14 home win over Antioch. They jumped out to a 27-0 lead and never let up, which ended up being the game’s final lead. Much of that was thanks to the rushing attack of Tamari Hill and Craig Tutt. The Patriots will open regional play this week with a top-40 matchup in Murfreesboro between them and Blackman.

Previous placement: 4
CPA moved up a spot to No. 3 with a top-15 road win over Montgomery Bell Academy, 34-6. Owen Cabell opened the game with a 50-yard touchdown catch before Rawls Patterson carried them the rest of the way with 183 yards and three touchdowns on the night, a career high. They now face a top-40 game where they will host Battle Ground Academy at the end of the week.

Previous placement: 3
Although Houston dropped one spot to No. 4, they are still 4-0 after last week’s 42-3 win over Cordova. Chandler Day carried the Mustangs with three more touchdowns while their defense forced two turnovers, including a fumble recovery in the end zone. With this 39-point win, they now prepare to host Whitehaven for a top-30 game.

Previous placement: 7
For the first time this season, Maryville finally gave up some points as they failed to shut out their last opponent. However, they still scored more than enough points to win 35-14 on the road against Knoxville West in a top-25 game and move into the top five this season. Now 5-0, the Rebels are ready for another game against a top-25 opponent in Science Hill this week.

Previous placement: 5
McCallie opened division play last week with a 37-7 victory over Memphis University School. Elliott Drapeau threw five touchdowns in the 30-point victory, reaching four different targets in those touchdowns, with each touchdown coming from over 20 yards away. The Blue Tornadoes will play one of the biggest games in the state this week, if not the biggest, when they host Brentwood Academy in a top-10 meeting.

Previous placement: 6
Ensworth earned its second straight shutout with a 35-0 win over Knoxville Catholic in a top-20 road game. Now they’ll host a top-15 game in Nashville when Lipscomb Academy comes to them.

Previous placement: 8
Ravenwood maintained its spot in the top 10 thanks to a 42-9 win over Smyrna. The Raptors totaled 224 rushing yards on the night, with a career-high 115 yards at 8.9 yards per carry, and two runs for Maverick Chance. This week they will travel again to play in Overton.

Previous placement: 10
After a top-10 loss to start the season, Brentwood Academy has won its last three games, including two over-ranked opponents. The most recent win was a 31-2 victory over Father Ryan. They allowed a safety in the second quarter and were only up 7-2 at halftime, but then scored 24 unanswered points in the second half to take the 29-2 victory. The Eagles now head to Chattanooga to open regional play on Friday with a highly rated matchup between them and McCallie School.

Previous placement: 15
In addition to a top-10 loss to BA, Brentwood is also 3-1 after a close 7-6 win over Henry County. Despite only earning one point, they still made it into the top 10 in Tennessee this week, which also sets them up for regional play, which begins this week in Spring Hill when they face Summit.
