Last year, Tems was at the center of bizarre pregnancy rumors involving Future. The Nigerian singer recently expressed her confusion as to why, out of all the artists she has collaborated with, Future was the focus of speculation. Despite their collaboration on the hit “Wait for U,” Tems found the choice of Future odd.

“I feel like people take the most controversial thing they can think of… I was like, why am I pregnant with Future? So why Future? Why him? This is the craziest thing… why not with Wiz (Kid)? Why not with Drake? Why not with someone else?” she said, clarifying that her reaction would have been the same no matter what artist was involved.

Tems has previously denied the pregnancy rumors. Shortly after they began circulating, she expressed her frustration on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “To sum up, you all are crazy!!!” During a December interview on The Drive Time Show with The Beat 99.9 FMshe revealed that the rumors escalated and she even received death threats. “I didn’t think anyone believed it,” Tems said. “I didn’t know it was serious until I started getting messages, like death threats. Like, ‘How dare you! Future of all people? Really? Really, Future of all people?’ And I’ve never met him in my life. So it’s crazy.”
