Temporary road closures and water service disruptions in downtown Lynchburg this week

Construction continues in Lynchburg as Phase IV of the downtown renewal project moves forward.

A section of 12th Street in downtown Lynchburg will be closed Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning due to water main construction.

The section of 12th Street between Main and Church Streets will be closed from 7:00 p.m. Tuesday to 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, and water service will be temporarily turned off to properties between the 800 and 1100 blocks of Church Street, 216 and 320 blocks of 12th Street, and 1201 Main Street.

The city said permanent asphalt patches will be installed on the excavation site during the day beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday, August 21.

Main Street will remain open to eastbound traffic to access the Community Market parking lot.

In addition, Lynchburg Water Resources crews will be conducting water main construction work at the intersection of Main and 13th Streets from 11 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday. As a result, water service will be temporarily shut off to the Lynchburg Community Market, City Market Lofts, Starr Hill Brewery and RedStar Flats.

Customers outside of these areas who experience a water outage during the times listed above should contact Lynchburg Water Resources’ emergency hotline at 434-455-4250.
