Teenager killed in accident on I-93 near Londonderry

LONDONDERRY – According to the New Hampshire State Police, a 17-year-old was killed in a car crash on Interstate 93 this afternoon.

The accident occurred today, August 23, at 2:47 p.m., when the gray 2008 Mercury Milan the teenager was driving left the southbound lane of I-93 near mile marker 14 and collided with several trees.

After reports of the incident, state police officers from Troop B arrived at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Lillianna Cawthron of Londonderry.

Rescue workers from Londonderry Fire Brigade had to free Cawthron from the wreckage.

She was taken to Elliott Hospital in Manchester with critical injuries, where she was later pronounced dead.

The collision caused the motorway to be closed completely for a short time; while the authorities investigated the accident and cleared the scene, traffic was ultimately reduced to two lanes for about four hours.

Londonderry Police and Fire Departments and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation responded to the scene.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
