Of course, Taylor Swift wouldn’t just wear a dress at the 2024 MTV VMAs.
The “Fortnight” singer changed into a beaded minidress after entering the awards ceremony – and the dress had a UFO depicted on the front, which seemed like a nice nod to the singer’s hit “Down Bad” from her latest album. The “Tortured Poets” section.

The blue-green dress, which also had leather straps and a gathered skirt, featured a pearl-studded UFO right in the middle of the chest – perhaps an Easter egg?
Swift said on iHeartRadio in April that the lyrics of “Down Bad” are about being bombarded with love, comparing it to abandonment and alien abduction.
“This girl gets abducted by aliens, but she wanted to stay with them,” she said. “And then they drop her off in her hometown. She goes, ‘Wait, no. Where are you going? I liked it there, it was weird, but it was cool, come back.'”
Swifties on social media immediately picked up on the allusion and called the outfit change the “Down Bad Dress.”

When Swift first stepped out at the UBS Arena in New York on September 11, she rocked a completely dressed-up Dior look. She paired a yellow checkered bustier top with an attached skirt, a pair of black velvet hot pants, and grid-patterned leather gloves. Swift also stayed true to her style with over-the-knee boots, wearing a pair of Stuart Weitzman Maverick boots, which retail for $1,200 and are currently sold out.
She completed the look with dramatic glamour, even ditching her signature red lip. Her hair was styled with messy textured waves and side-swept bangs.
And of course, she was adorned with jewels: She wore 30-carat pear-shaped canary-yellow diamond earrings by Lorraine Schwartz, surrounded by black jade to accentuate the yellow check pattern.

Swift is nominated for ten awards at this year’s show, including best collaboration with Post Malone for “Fortnight” and artist of the year, both of which she won. Post Malone is the second most nominated artist of the night with nine nominations.
The 2024 MTV VMAs will air live from the UBS Arena in New York on September 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
