As many saw during the Legislature’s Select Committee hearing on LB1, there was a lot of opposition. It’s clearly not what the people want.
As a young, hard-working Nebraskan, LB1 would negatively impact my life. I would pay more taxes for the same things and ultimately would not benefit from this law.
It is claimed that if landlords’ property taxes were reduced, tenants would benefit from a reduction in property tax. However, I find it hard to imagine that these savings would be passed on to us tenants.
In fact, this bill would significantly reduce my quality of life in Nebraska and force me, as a young Nebraskan, to move out of state to seek better opportunities.
If I think so, others must think so too. The fact is that if we do not take action to fix the problem, our state will suffer. Governor Jim Pillen is making a fool of our government by asking senators to draft bills to reduce property taxes, a move that would benefit him more than most.

It is a comfort to me to know that there are still some good minds in our legislature. Let’s hope they stay strong and stand up for Nebraskans who have no voice in government.
