Tampa International Airport to close Thursday due to Hurricane Helene

Tampa International Airport will suspend all commercial and cargo flights beginning at 2 a.m. Thursday ahead of Hurricane Helene. The airport will remain closed to the public until any damage can be assessed after the storm.

The airport and its partners will use the time before the closure to prepare the airfield and terminals, including securing jetways, ground equipment and any remaining aircraft before the storm arrives on Thursday. The three other public airports, managed by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority, Peter O. Knight, Tampa Executive and Plant City Airports also closes on Thursday at 2am.

The TPA, including the main terminal and boarding gates, is not open to the public and cannot serve as a shelter for persons or vehicles.

The airport anticipates reopening Friday following a damage assessment that will begin as soon as it is safe to do so. TPA will closely coordinate the reopening of the airport with its partners, including the Transportation Security Administration and airlines, based on traffic safety, facility readiness and staffing levels. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated promptly.
