Taco ’bout MoonFusion brings spice to the food truck selection

For the sisters, it was a no-brainer to focus on the people who love tacos. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t?

EmmaLee Jensen and her sister Beckie Johnson have teamed up to make delicious takeout tacos more accessible in the Sault Ste. Marie area.

On July 12, they opened the food truck Taco ’bout MoonFusion in hopes of capitalizing on the growing nationwide food truck industry.

According to a recent student statement, the food truck industry in the United States will be a $1.4 billion market by 2022, and the growth rate of the food truck industry is only expected to increase in the coming years.

Most of the food truck industry started in 2008 when the economy was in decline. This was also the time when social media popularity was growing and rising. Most food trucks communicate with their local customers through social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

There is a story behind the food truck’s unique name.

“We want people to know right away that we are a taco truck. The fusion is us, sisters. We have a silent partner, Glenna Hart, and she is the little sister. She was adopted and is half Mexican and half Eskimo. I am the middle sister and am also adopted and Chilean,” she said. “Beckie is the oldest sister, she is mom and dad’s biological child. We are all five years apart and are a ‘fusion’ of family and love. Food has always brought our family together and there is no better way to celebrate that togetherness than sharing our food,” Jensen said.

It took Jensen and Johnson about a year to get the business up and running.

“Everyone has been very friendly. People are reaching out to us to set up shop in their business. We’re reopening Wal-Mart soon. They came to us and invited us in. Several small businesses in town have reached out to us. The response has been incredible,” Jensen said.

For the sisters, it was a no-brainer to focus on the people who love tacos. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t?

“I like tacos. There are all kinds of food trucks. There can be the same types of food trucks, but everyone makes them differently. That’s what’s special about food trucks. Our menu, though, is simple. All of our condiments we try to make fresh. Our meat is locally sourced from Neville’s. We made everything fresh,” Jensen continued.

Although the sisters have only been in business for a few weeks, they believe their hard work will pay off.

“You have to stand out and put a lot of heart and soul into it. Kudos to all the other food trucks too. It’s hard work,” added Jensen.

In the just three weeks since Taco ’bout MoonFusion opened, two items have become customer favorites.

“The street tacos are very popular. We make them as authentic as possible. Our taco shells are packed full and people love them too,” Jenson said.
