    T-Spoon deserved better

    In today’s news that no one had on the bingo card, it was said that the Chicago Sky fired first-year head coach Teresa Weatherspoon late Thursday night while no one was listening.

    Chances are, some of you probably didn’t even know this happened. The Chicago Sun Times’ Annie Costabile announced the news at 9:47 p.m. ET. Judging by the online reactions, it seems no one expected it.

    That includes Angel Reese, who said she was “heartbroken” over the organization’s decision to fire its first head coach.

    And that’s why this decision is so incredibly confusing. Weatherspoon seemed to have such a deep connection with the star players in that locker room.

    Angel Reese says Weatherspoon was the first person to believe in her in the WNBA. She had also clearly been able to connect with Chennedy Carter in a way no other trainer had ever managed before, and was able to get the best out of her as a result. She had also protected Kamilla Cardoso despite the Sky’s free fall towards the end of the season.

    Yes, we understand it. The Sky missed the postseason this year for the first time since 2018. The team finished the season on a five-game losing streak and won only two of its last ten games.

    But Weatherspoon deserved clemency, and Chicago officials clearly did not grant it.

    Carter suffered for weeks from an undisclosed illness that put her in health and safety protocols. Then Reese hurts his wrist and is out for a year, shortly after Carter returns. Shortly afterwards, Cardoso re-injured the shoulder that had bothered her all season. These three are undoubtedly Chicago’s best players and were unavailable.

    But even without those injuries, Weatherspoon would have had more runway to take off here.

    Clear chaos has been dealt to her by the Sky’s front office this season. Kahleah Copper demanded a trade after Sky missed some big fish in free agency. The squad that was put together never quite made sense. There was a lot of overlap offensively, including the two rookies Chicago drafted in the first round. When I asked Weatherspoon to coach this team to the playoffs, I asked her to make lemonade with lime.

    She almost did it! Chicago was close to making the postseason until everything just fell apart at the end of the season. Still, she had gotten the best out of her best players. Angel Reese looks like a potential superstar. But it seems that wasn’t enough for Spoon to keep her job. Too bad.

    I hope Chicago has a solid replacement in mind because they will have big shoes to fill in the locker room.

    The Cowboys win, but at what cost?

    Good news, Cowboys fans! You got a win over the Giants. It was definitely a much-needed win. Falling to 1-3 after losing to Danny Dimes and the G-Men would have been devastating.

    Bad news, Cowboys fans. Micah Parsons will likely be out for a minute. This defense looked pretty terrible at the start of the year and things are probably going to get worse now.

    Parsons was carted off the field with an ankle injury. If it’s as serious as it looks, he could be out for at least a few weeks.

    Of course, you never want to experience an injury like that. But the timing for Dallas isn’t as bad as it could be. Here is the Cowboys’ upcoming schedule for the next few weeks:

    • @Steelers, October 6th
    • vs. Lions, October 13th
    • Bye week
    • @49ers, October 27th

    None of these games will be easy, but taking a break every now and then helps a little.

    On the other hand…the Giants.

    The Giants have also lost their best player on offense. The rookie host Malik Nabers suffered a concussion just one play after Parsons was sidelined because of his ankle injury.

    However, he didn’t leave before breaking an NFL record. He is the first player in the NFL to record at least 30 catches in his first four games. This includes this one, where he probably could have scored.

    The Giants got another one, man. How do they continue to do this?

    The A’s may stink, but seeing this team leave Oakland is still sad. The team has been there for 57 years. Now it’s over.

    In five years, Oakland has lost the Raiders, Warriors and now the A’s. Simply devastating. I can’t imagine being a sports fan in this city right now. It has to be contradictory.
