Swansea City: Luke Williams hopes for four new signings and a more successful season

However, Williams said he is not worried about the size of his squad ahead of Saturday’s Championship opening game at Middlesbrough, having been assured that more players would be signed.

“I would be concerned if it was the same team in two months because I think it would be difficult for the team in its current form to cope with that given the number of games,” he said.

“But that’s not going to happen, so I’m not worried. I’m more concerned about getting the right people. If that takes a little longer, then that’s just how it is.”

“We want people to come here and stay here for a long time. We want them to play well from the start and improve, rather than signing a player who doesn’t work, who we don’t use often and who has bad experiences and so do we.”

Swansea are likely to have one of the smaller budgets in the second division, which is why some potential transfer candidates have already looked elsewhere this summer.

They signed Slovenian international Vipotnik on a free transfer – following the collapse of his previous club Bordeaux – while goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux, midfielder Goncalo Franco and Eom Ji-Sung, who can play on the wings or in attacking midfield, came for undisclosed fees.

All four new signings are expected to play at the Riverside, although Vipotnik is not expected to play there as he only started training with Swansea this week.
