Multiple rescue and law enforcement agencies evacuate residents of the Pinecraft neighborhood on Phillippi Creek in Sarasota
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a crane truck collided with an SUV near Arcadia on Thursday, leaving two men with minor injuries.
The 70-year-old man driving the Land Rover was traveling in the outside center lane of Interstate 75 northbound at mile marker 217 at 1:22 p.m. while a crane truck driven by a 24-year-old man was traveling northbound in the center lane.
The crane truck’s right front tire suddenly lost pressure, causing the truck to spin clockwise and collide with the left front of the Land Rover, a police accident report said.

The Land Rover overturned onto its left side and came to rest on the eastern grass verge, while the crane truck rotated clockwise and came to rest alongside the Range Rover.
Both drivers were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
In 2024, there were 4,047 accidents in Sarasota County. According to the Florida Crash Dashboard, there were 36 deaths and 2,454 injuries. In Manatee County, there were 3,722 accidents in 2024. There were 31 deaths and 2,709 injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol will continue to investigate this traffic accident.
