Suspect identified in connection with threat to Three Rivers Community Schools

THREE RIVERS, Michigan (WNDU) – Police say they have identified the suspect who made a threat on social media that led to the closure of Three Rivers Community Schools on Thursday.

According to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office, the threat was made via Snapchat on Wednesday evening.

Out of an abundance of caution, authorities decided to close the Three Rivers schools.

“I saw a Facebook post about the threat about 15 minutes before the school sent out all the notices for today’s cancellation and I was honestly filled with fear and anger,” said Reece Deneau, a parent at Three Rivers Community Schools. “Fear because it’s horrible that we as parents and students, our children, they don’t deserve to go through this, we don’t deserve to go through this. And part of me is angry that this keeps happening. We keep allowing kids to make threats, we give them a slap on the wrist and we let them go on with their lives. They’re disrupting other people’s lives.”

Police say the juvenile suspect, who lives outside the town of Three Rivers, was brought to the sheriff’s office by his mother and is cooperating fully with the investigation. It is currently unclear if he will face charges.

Police have concluded that there is no serious threat to the district. Schools will reopen on Friday.
