Suranne Jones on working with her husband on the new Channel 4 show

Suranne Jones has spoken about working with her husband on their new documentary series for Channel 4.

In “Suranne Jones: Investigating Witch Trials,” which opens this weekend, the “Doctor Foster” actor takes a look at witch trials throughout history and their significance today.

The two-part show sees her working with her husband, producer Laurence Akers. Jones explains the idea came about after they formed a production company.

“I have always loved literature about folklore, fairy tales, witches and vampires,” she recalls (via OK!).

“When I was younger, I always wanted to play the witch rather than the princess. And when I got married, my husband always said, ‘Is that another witch book you’re reading?’

“When we started our production company, he wrote a brilliant treatment for me, sent it off and before we knew it, it was commissioned.”

Later in the documentary, Jones admitted that if she had lived a few centuries ago, she “would not have survived.”

“I’m creative, I’m open, I’m constantly changing my look, I tell stories, I love animals… I mean, it sounds crazy, right?

“I have mental health issues and I’m in perimenopause, so it’s not really my thing, because if you sweat too much or your hormones are going crazy and it affects you in a way that makes you angry, you’re definitely a witch.”

Besides Dr. Foster, Jones is probably best known for his roles in the BBC series Vigil and Gentleman Jack.

Earlier this year, the actress landed a role in the Netflix political thriller “The Choice,” in which she plays the fictional British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton.

“Suranne Jones: Investigating Witch Trials” premieres this Sunday (23 June) at 9pm on Channel 4.
