Sun against fever, lynx against Mercury on Wednesday

play

The Las Vegas Aces and New York Liberty have secured two of the semifinal spots in the 2024 WNBA playoffs. Can the last two be secured?

On Wednesday, the Connecticut Sun and Minnesota Lynx have a chance to advance to the semifinals and play a playoff remake of last season. On the other hand, the Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury will fight to keep their season alive and force a win-or-lose Game 3 on their home courts. Not only are the Fever and Mercury facing elimination, it could also mean the end of Caitlin Clark’s rookie season and possibly the last time Diana Taurasi plays for Phoenix or even in the WNBA.

Here’s everything you need to know about Wednesday night’s playoff games:

No. 3 Connecticut Sun vs. No. 6 Indiana Fever

  • Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
  • Television, streaming: ESPN
  • Location: Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, Connecticut
  • Series status: Sun leads 1-0

What happened in game 1? Alyssa Thomas recorded her fourth career triple-double to spoil Clark’s playoff debut with a 93-69 win. The experienced Sun pulled away from the Fever in the second half to take the series lead.

What is at stake? If Connecticut wins, it will advance to the semifinals. If Indiana wins, a third game would be necessary with the Fever hosting on Friday night.

No. 2 Minnesota Lynx vs. No. 7 Phoenix Mercury

  • Time: 9:30 p.m. ET
  • Television, streaming: ESPN
  • Location: Target Center Minneapolis, Minnesota
  • Series status: Lynx leads 1-0

What happened in game 1? Phoenix overcame a 23-point deficit to take a fourth-quarter lead, but Minnesota held off a late comeback to win 102-95. Napheesa Collier scored a personal playoff high of 38 points, just four points shy of the playoff record of 42 points held by Breanna Stewart.

What is at stake? If Minnesota wins, it will advance to the semifinals. If Phoenix wins, a third game would be necessary with the Mercury hosting on Friday night.
