Student taken into custody after possible threat at Eighth Street Middle School in Tifton

TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) – A student was taken into custody after a threat was made against Eighth Street Middle School in Tifton.

According to a Facebook post from the school, law enforcement received a potential threat against the school. It is currently unknown when the threat was made or what the nature of the threat was.

The school said it was not aware of any further threats against students or staff in connection with this incident.

The school encourages parents to talk to their children about appropriate and inappropriate expressions of their feelings, the seriousness of threats and the possible consequences of their statements.

Eighth Street Middle School’s anonymous alert line is available on its website. Students and parents can submit information about suspicious activity.

“Please make sure your students know who to talk to if they learn of a threat,” the post says.

Alerts are monitored by school administration and system security personnel and responded to in a timely manner.

The Tifton Police Department (TPD) is currently investigating this incident.
