Student arrested after shooting near McLane High. Search for second shooter continues.

Sheriff’s officials have arrested a juvenile in connection with the shooting that was fired near McLane High School on Wednesday afternoon and are searching for a second suspected shooter.

In a press release Thursday morning, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Botti said no one was hit by bullets in the shooting. He described the shooting as apparently gang-related.

The arrested 16-year-old student had been sent to a juvenile detention center for several serious crimes, Botti said.

“Officers continue to follow up on leads and have gathered information on a possible second boy armed with a weapon. He has not yet been apprehended,” Botti said.

He said additional officers and police forces were stationed at the school to ensure the safety of McLane High students.

Justin Garza High School locked down

Fresno Police Department spokesman Lt. Bill Dooley said Thursday morning that Justin Garza High School was temporarily locked down while officers executed search warrants in the 6500 block of West Ashlan Avenue.

During the warrant search, there was a brief standoff with a suspect before he was arrested, Dooley said.

He stressed that the closure of the school was “ordered only because of the proximity in time to the search warrant – at no time was there an immediate threat to the school or the students.”
