ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — Today, community members received backpacks and free haircuts – all in memory of two young women who left us far too soon.

On Sunday afternoon, the My Destiny Scholarship Foundation, along with other groups, held a street party in Krank Park in Albany in honor of Destiny Greene and Dominique K. Hollywood. They were both murdered in 2021. Greene was just 15 years old, Hollywood 27 years old

Destiny Greene’s mother is the founder of the My Destiny Scholarship Foundation and she wanted to host this “good old-fashioned street party” to help the community and raise awareness about violence in the community.

We just want everyone to come. The whole goal is to serve the community where we felt there was a lack of things that are needed here in the community, Tareen Lynch-Green Destiney Greene’s mother

And we just try to support our community by encouraging and empowering them and letting us know as black mothers that we want to be there for them. So we often give her the school bags and food, all part of the social health program.Deb Eley Dominique K. Hollywood’s mother

Events like this one take place throughout the summer to raise awareness about violence in the community.

Both of the girl’s alleged murderers are in prison. The alleged murderer of Destiny Greene must spend 25 years behind bars. The alleged murderer of Dominique will be sentenced on August 22nd.
