Raleigh, NC – Several thunderstorms will impact Raleigh and surrounding areas today, bringing the threat of flash flooding and severe weather. Residents should prepare for heavy rain throughout the day, with the possibility of damaging winds and large hail. The storms will impact traffic on major highways, including I-40, and localized flooding is expected in low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service, the chance of severe weather is highest in the western Piedmont, with the threat of flash flooding continuing through the night. The amount of rain could overwhelm sewage systems, especially in urban areas. Authorities are urging motorists to avoid flooded roads and take alternate routes.

Looking ahead, rain will continue through Wednesday, with a 40% chance of rain, but things should clear up by Thursday. Temperatures will stay just above 27 degrees all week, although another storm system could roll in by Friday with a 65% chance of rain.

Residents are urged to monitor local weather alerts and stay informed of changing conditions as storms approach. Keep emergency supplies on hand and avoid travel during heavy rain to ensure personal safety.
