Stock Up | Jets impressed during Panthers week

DT Leonard Taylor III
Taylor, a former five-star recruit who signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Miami, FL, began to flash last week. He had a goal-line run in practice before the season opener against the Commanders that resulted in the Green & Whites’ only sack, followed by another tackle for a loss. His 35 snaps rank third among defensive linemen.

Taylor had 2 tackles against the Panthers on Saturday, including 1 TFL.

“He’s starting to really understand what offense means in our front,” DC Jeff Ulbrich said Thursday. “I assume he’s always had that skill set in his body since he started playing ball. That front, in my opinion, really unleashes guys like that. It really allows you to showcase their athleticism, their explosiveness, their speed, their movement, so I think he’s really starting to realize, ‘Man, this front is perfect for my skill set. I can just let it go.’ You’re just starting to see the byproduct of that mindset with some really cool performances. He’s got a long way to go and he knows that, but it’s really exciting to see some beginnings here early on.”

Fellow DT Javon Kinlaw said of Taylor: “He’s a baller. He’s a young guy, but he’s a baller. He needs to stop thinking so much. When he’s not thinking, you can see that he’s a ball player. I expect a lot from him.”
