“The August 24 FPI outflows were mainly due to a combination of global and domestic factors. Globally, concerns over the unwinding of the yen carry trade, a possible global recession, slowing economic growth and ongoing geopolitical conflicts led to market volatility and risk aversion. Domestically, some FPIs that were net buyers in June and July may have decided to take profits after a strong rally in the previous quarters. Moreover, mixed quarterly earnings and relatively higher valuations have made Indian equities less attractive. Despite these factors, India’s strong economic performance, including GDP growth, reduced fiscal deficit, manageable current account deficit and strong sectoral growth and industrial production, continues to attract many FPIs, suggesting that FPI inflows into India should continue.”

The main highlights are:

– There is an improvement in revenue growth to 7.7% in Q1 FY25 compared to growth of 2.3% in Q1 FY24.

– After increasing by over 30% in the first quarter of fiscal 2024, growth in both PBT and PAT slowed sharply to low single digits in the first quarter of fiscal 2025.

– In Q1 FY 2025, the ICR decreased slightly to 5.76 from 5.97 in Q1 FY 2024. Despite the slowdown, the ICR remains at a comfortable level.

– On the positive side, rural demand is picking up as sales of consumer goods, two-wheelers and tractors are increasing. A normal monsoon will further support this recovery.

– Dynamics were also observed in sectors such as textiles, chemicals and paper.

– On the other hand, the crude oil, cement and iron and steel industries significantly slowed down overall development.
