Stefano Pioli appointed head coach of Al Nassr after leaving Milan

Stefano Pioli has been appointed as the new head coach of Al Nassr.

The 58-year-old replaces Luis Castro, who managed one win and two draws in Al Nassr’s first three matches in the Saudi Premier League. Castro’s last game as coach was a 1-1 draw with Iraqi side Al Shorta in the Asian Champions League on Monday.

Former coach of Inter Milan, Fiorentina and Lazio Pioli resigned from his post as head coach of Milan at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Pioli, who was replaced by Paulo Fonseca, led Milan to their first Scudetto in 11 years in the 2021/22 season after ending the club’s seven-year wait to enter the Champions League the previous season.

In the 2022/23 season, the Italian led AC Milan to the semi-finals of the Champions League, securing knockout victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Napoli before losing 3-0 on aggregate to city rivals Inter in the semi-finals.
