Steelers News: Russell Wilson and rookie WR Roman Wilson officially inactive for Week 3 against the Chargers

There are just under 90 minutes left until kickoff of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 3 game against the Los Angeles Chargers and both teams have officially announced their bystanders.

Missing from the list of players inactive today is rookie Troy Fautanu, who was placed on the injured list due to a knee injury he suffered in practice this week. He is expected to miss “most, if not all” of the 2024 NFL season, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Saturday night.

The biggest surprise this week is the inactive status of Roman Wilson, the Steelers’ third-round rookie wide receiver, who has been dealing with an ankle injury sustained in training camp but was not listed on the final injury report without an injury designation. So it looks like he won’t be in this game, perhaps because coaches are hoping to have more time to integrate him into the offensive system. Still, given Pittsburgh’s lack of depth at the position, it’s surprising not to see him in the active lineup.

It is noteworthy that the Chargers have quarterback Justin Herbert active and starting in this game after suffering a severe ankle sprain in Week 2 that made his participation questionable before this matchup.

Here’s a look at the Steelers’ inactive players heading into their Week 3 home opener against the Chargers.
