Steelers lead 10-0 against Broncos at halftime

The Steelers won the first week on the road and are on track for another road win in the second week.

Justin Fields threw a touchdown pass and Chris Boswell kicked a field goal on the final play of the first half to extend Pittsburgh’s lead over the Broncos to 10-0.

The Broncos are lucky they aren’t even further behind. A 51-yard pass to George Pickens was negated by a holding penalty on Broderick Jones, and a touchdown pass to Pickens just before Boswell’s field goal was disallowed due to an offensive pass interference penalty on wide receiver Van Jefferson. Jones rotated with first-round pick Troy Fautanu at right tackle and picked up two more penalties before being taken out of the game again.

Fields completed 10 of 12 passes for 101 yards and ran four times for 26 yards. Najee Harris had eight carries for 41 yards and Jaylen Warren contributed six carries for 28 yards as the Steelers dominated time of possession thanks to their running game.

The Broncos punted three times and picked up a first down to start the game. Their fourth and final possession included two first downs and they got into Pittsburgh territory, but quarterback Bo Nix was incomplete on a fourth-and-7, ending the drive.

Denver is without defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers because of a concussion, linebacker Baron Browning is dealing with a foot injury and cornerback Riley Moss was forced off the field shortly before halftime due to injury, so their comeback attempt will have to come with a weaker defense than they would like to have on the field.
