Steelers extend TV contract with KDKA until the 2027 season

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a long-standing relationship with local news station KDKA-TV. The relationship began in 1998 with the broadcast of preseason games and is now set to last through the 2027 season, according to a press release from the Steelers Wednesday morning. This makes the relationship now in place for 29 consecutive seasons.

“We are pleased to announce the continuation of our long-standing partnership with KDKA-TV,” Ryan Huzjak, Steelers vice president of sales and marketing, said in a statement. “This new agreement extends our relationship to 29 consecutive seasons of bringing preseason games, pregame and postgame shows, and the most comprehensive year-round Steelers coverage to our fans across the region.”

This means that the same crew that has presented the last few preseason games, including Bob Pompeani, Charlie Batch, Missi Matthews, Max Starks and AJ Ross, will continue to handle preseason coverage for years to come. Several former Steelers are involved in these broadcasts, which is always great as it gives you a unique look into the inner workings of the team. Pompeani was part of the first KDKA Steelers broadcast in 1998, so it will continue to be a notable time for him as one of the faces of the Steelers broadcasts.

Regular-season games are split up as part of the NFL’s extensive television contracts with the major networks, but in the preseason each team has some control over how the games are presented.

In addition to preseason games, they broadcast events such as the Steelers Draft Show, Steelers Training Camp Show, Steelers Kickoff Pregame, Steelers Extra Point Post Game, Steelers Weekly Wrap-Up and more.

With the 2026 NFL Draft taking place in Pittsburgh, it is guaranteed that the broadcast rights will not change until after the event. They should be able to report some pretty unique things about the draft, as it is expected to be the biggest event in the city’s history.
