Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County schools will be closed again on Tuesday, October 1st

Schools will remain closed on Tuesday, marking the second day this week that flooding has forced students to stay home.

Schools in Staunton, Augusta County and Waynesboro all announced Monday evening that they would remain closed Tuesday, Oct. 1.

“Local streets remain flooded and additional rainfall is expected overnight,” Staunton City Schools said in an email. “As a result, Staunton City Schools will remain closed to students and staff tomorrow, October 1st. Thank you.”

Augusta County and Waynesboro followed shortly after, both making the announcement on social media and in messages to families.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning through 11 p.m. Monday caused by excessive rainfall. The watch applies to parts of central and western Virginia. Excessive runoff can cause flooding of rivers, streams, creeks and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, according to the National Weather Service. The warning said streams and streams could burst their banks.
